I 70 ANNI DELLA NATO DI GUERRA IN GUERRA (IT/FR/PT/RO/EN/TUR/SP/DAN/NL)

After the atomic bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki
in 1945, for four years, the United States was
the only nation on Earth to possess nuclear weapons. The Pentagon calculated that
in order to destroy the Soviet Union, 200 nuclear bombs
would be enough. In 1949, the Soviet Union
carried out its first nuclear test. In the same year when Washington learned that the USSR was about to possess the Bomb, the United States created NATO. Six years later, in 1955,
the Warsaw Pact was formed. With NATO, during the Cold War, the United States maintained the domination of their European allies, using Europe as the front line
in a nuclear confrontation with the Soviet Union From 1945 to 1991, stored in the nuclear arsenals of the USA,
the USSR and seven other countries, there was a power equivalent
to more than one million Hiroshima Bombs. For the first time in History,
we had created a power of destruction capable of wiping
from the surface of the Earth the human species
and almost all other forms of life. The Cold War ended with the dissolution of the Warsaw Pact
and the Soviet Union, in 1991. The United States used this opportunity
to launch in the Gulf the first conflict
of the post-Cold War period. The main NATO countries,
including Italy, participated in this war. Simultaneously,
NATO extended Eastwards towards Russia. The first step was the demolition
of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, which the United States,
the European powers and NATO launched in 1990, by supplying secessionist groups and catalysing
the Federation’s internal conflicts. In February 1994, NATO warplanes shot down Serbo-Bosniac planes which were over-flying Bosnia. This was the first act of war since the foundation of the Alliance. The war, which was named “Operation Allied Force” began on 24 March 1999. For 78 days,
taking off principally from Italian bases, 1,100 warplanes (including the Italians)
carried out 38 thousand sorties,
dropping 23 thousand bombs and missiles. The bombing dismantled the structures and infrastructures of Serbia, causing thousands of civilian victims. Depleteted uranium projectiles were used, and chemical sites were bombed, causing long-term damage
to health and the environment. While the war against Yugoslavia
was on-going, a NATO summit
was held in Washington, from 23 to 25 April 1999,
to make the ”new strategic concept” operational. NATO was transformed into an alliance which held its member countries to
”carry out operations of retaliation to crises which were NOT covered by article 5,
outside of Alliance territories”. What did not change, in this transmutation of NATO,
was its internal hierarchy. It is always the President of the United States who nominates the Supreme Allied Commander for Europe, who is always a US General. The same is true
for the other key Commands. While demolishing the Yugoslav Federation by war, NATO began to extend towards the East. This continued, even though Washington had assured the President of the USSR,
Mikhail Gorbachev, that ”NATO will not expand a single centimetre
towards the East”. In 1999, NATO
(which had already absorbed, in 1990, the German Democratic Republic) also encompassed the first three countries
of the ex-Warsaw Pact: Poland, the Czech Republic and Hungary. In 2004,
it swallowed up seven others: Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, (formerly members of the USSR) Bulgaria, Romania, Czechoslovakia
(formerly members of the Warsaw Pact); and Slovenia,
(formerly a member of the Yugoslav Federation). In 2009, it also included Albania
(at one time a member of the Warsaw Pact)
and Croatia, and in 2017, Montenegro, (once a part of Yugoslavia). In 2019, it signed the membership protocol
for the adhesion of Macedonia (ex-member of the Yugoslav Federation) as its 30th member. In 20 years,
NATO grew from 16 to 29 countries, (30 if it also included Macedonia), extending ever closer
to the frontier with Russia. Three other countries – Bosnia-Herzegovina
(ex-member of the Yugoslav Federation), Georgia and Ukraine
(ex-members of the USSR) were candidates to become members of NATO. The United States attacked and invaded Afghanistan
in 2001. The official reason was to hunt down Oussama ben Laden (their ex-ally in the Afghan war against the USSR), whom they accused of being the commander
of the terrorist attacks of 11 September 2001. The official version of the terrorist attacks of 11 September does not stand up to technico-scientific investigations carried out by independent experts. The USA, in reality, invaded Afghanistan to occupy the void
left by the dismemberment of the USSR in Central Asia, a strategically important area concerning Russia and China. In August 2003, by a show of strength, NATO took over the command of the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF), a UNO mandated mission which as a result was inserted into the Pentagon’s chain of command. After Afghanistan it was Iraq’s turn,
a country which had been submitted, since 1991, to a vicious embargo which in ten years caused one and a half million deaths, half a million of which were children. The USA presented the UNO Security Council
with ”proof”, which was later revealed as being false, that Iraq was
in possession of weapons of mass destruction. The war began in March 2003 with the aerial bombing and occupation
of Baghdad and other cities. In order to eradicate the resistance, Iraq was bloodied and burned by more than one and a half million soldiers whom the Pentagon deployed in rotation with hundreds of thousands
of military contractors. This war, in which NATO participated
with its own structures and forces, used all possible means: from phosphorous bombs against the population
of Fallujah to the tortures in Abu Ghraib prison. Libya possessed the most extensive oil reserves
in Africa, and huge reserves of natural gas,
plus a precious reserve of fossil water. The Libyan State maintained strong control over its energy reserves, leaving US and European companies with limited profit margins. Libya’s sovereign funds were enormous, as were the capital funds which the Libyan State had invested overseas in order to furnish Africa with its own financial organisations and its own currency. The immediate purpose of the war – as revealed by the emails between Clinton and Sarkozy – was to prevent Kadhafi from creating an African currency as an alternative to the dollar and the CFA Franc. On the eve of the war of 2011,
the United States and the European powers “froze” (in other words stole)
Libyan sovereign funds, which dealt a mortal blow to the entire project. The tribal sectors
hostile to the government of Tripoli were now financed and armed, as well as certain Islamist groups which only
a few months earlier had been qualified as terrorists. The whole operation was directed by the United States, first of all by the US Africa Command, then by NATO under US command. On 19 March 2011 the aero-naval bombing of Libya began.
In seven months, US/NATO aviation carried out
30 thousand missions, including 10 thousand attack missions which used more than
40 thousand bombs and missiles. Italy participated in this war with its bases and military forces, which trampled the Treaty of friendship and cooperation between the two countries. In this way, the state of Libya was demolished
– a State which, in Africa, maintained
”high levels of economic growth and human development”, as documented in 2010
by the World Bank itself. The war also affected the African immigrants in Libya, who, accused of having collaborated with Kadhafi, were imprisoned and tortured. Many of them fled across the Mediterranean
to Europe. Those among them who lost their lives
are also victims of the war by which NATO destroyed the Libyan State. In the same year, 2011,
after having demolished the State of Libya, the US/NATO operation
to demolish the Syrian State began. The strike force was made up of a rag-tag bunch
of armed Islamist groups from Afghanistan, Bosnia, Chechnia, Libya and other countries. In May 2013,
one month after having founded ISIS, Ibrahim al-Badri – the ”Caliph” –
met in Syria with US senator John McCain. ISIS received finance, arms and transport authority from the closest allies of the United States:
Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Turkey, Jordan, on the basis of a plan coordinated by the CIA. While the USA and their allies pretended to fight ISIS, ISIS continued to gain ground. This was exactly what the United States wanted,
as the demolition of Syria was their primary objective, along with the reoccupation of Iraq. The 2015 Russian military intervention in Syria,
in support of government forces, reversed the tide of the conflit,
which had already caused more than 250,000 deaths. The Russian aviation destroyed ISIS strongholds, which opened the way for the forces of Damascus. The United States, destabilised,
decided to play the card of the fragmentation of Syria. The US and NATO operation
in Ukraine began as soon as it became an autonomous State
in 1991. NATO developed a network of connections in Ukraine
in both the military and civilian sectors. The CIA and other secret services
trained armed neo-Nazi groups for years. The paramilitary structure of the Ukrainian neo-Nazis entered into action in 2014, Place Maïdan in Kiev, during a demonstration against corruption and the high cost of living. Armed groups
attacked government buildings, while hidden snipers
(imported from Georgia) fired arbitrarily, with precision rifles, on the demonstrators and the police. 20 February 2014 the General Secretary of NATO
ordered the armed forces to ”remain neutral”. It was a genuine coup d’État under the command of the USA/NATO, with the strategic aim of provoking a new Cold War in Europe in order to isolate Russia and reinforce
the influence of the United States in Europe. Faced with the blood-thirsty attacks against the Russians living in Ukraine, Crimea decided, by popular referendum, to enter the Russian Federation with the status of an autonomous republic. Russia was accused by NATO and the EU of having illegally incorporated Crimea, and was warned that it would be submitted to sanctions. NATO quadrupled the number of its double capacity fighter-bombers (conventional and nuclear) deployed in the Baltic region, and increased the number of its warships in the Baltic Sea, the Black Sea, and the Mediterranean. In four years, from 2014 to 2018, the United States spent 10 billion dollars For the
“European Reassurance Initiative”. US armoured vehicles are deployed by rotation in Poland and other Eastern countries on the boundary with Russia. European NATO countries also participated in this deployment on the Eastern front. The European Union – of which 21 of its 27 members are part of NATO (as Great Britain will be even if it leaves the EU) – promises not to create a European army,
but a force complementary to NATO. The armed forces of the United States either possess or rent in Italy more than 2,300 buildings with a total area of 2 million square metres, occupying about fifty sites. To these US bases must be added those of NATO under US command and the Italian bases which are lent for the use of the USA and NATO. The network of military bases in Italy is under the orders of the United States European Command (EUCOM) with, at its head, a General who is also the Supreme Allied Commander
in Europe. The ”EUCOM Area of Responsibility” is one of six ”unified combat commands”
by which the USA covers the globe, includes the entire European region and all of Russia, plus Turkey, Israël and Georgia. Here are the most important USA/NATO bases in Italy.
The air base in Aviano shelters US fighter planes, while the base in Ghedi shelters Italian fighters
under US command, ready to attack
with B61 nuclear bombs. The base in Vicence shelters the US 173rd Airborne Brigade whose forces are sent to Afghanistan,
Iraq, Ukraine, and other Eastern European countries. Between Pisa and Livorno is Camp Darby,
the largest US arsenal outside of the United States itself. It supplies the US and Allied ground and air forces
in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Camp Darby
– according to the enquiry by Italian magistrates – was part of the putschist Gladio network.
As testified by Ferdinando Imposimato Honorary President of the
Supreme Court of Cassation At Lago Patria (Naples) is the headquarters of the Allied Joint Force Command, under the orders of the US Admiral who commands US Naval Forces in Europe,
and those for Africa. At the general headquarters
of Lago Patria is the “NATO Strategic Direction South Hub” which carries out espionage activities in the Middle East and Africa. At Sigonella, in Sicily, is the largest USA/NATO base
in the Mediterranean, used for military operations (most of them secret) in the Middle East, Africa and other regions. It is one of four global stations of the MUOS satellite system which connects all US military forces to a single network, wherever in the world they happen to be. In Sardinia are the largest firing ranges for the training of Italian and NATO military forces. They are a source of environmental contamination which cause grave consequences for the health of the population. In 2017,
The North Atlantic Council rejected the UNO Treaty concerning the abolition of nuclear weapons. In this way, NATO has dispossessed the national parliaments of its member countries of the sovereignty to decide autonomously whether or not to adhere to the NATO Treaty. In violation of the Non-Proliferation Treaty,
the United States have stored
B61 nuclear bombs in five NATO countries: Italy, Germany, Belgium, Holland, and Turkey. These countries are also in violation of the Non-Proliferation Treaty, which forbids militarily non-nuclear states to receive nuclear weapons. The B61’s will be replaced, as from 2020,
by new US nuclear bombs, known as B61-12’s. Unlike the B61 gravity bomb the B61-12 is guided to its target and then explodes underground in order to destroy the central command bunkers in a nuclear ”first strike”. In February 2019, the USA announced the ”suspension” of the INF Treaty
with Russia, which was signed
in 1987 by Presidents Gorbachev and Reagan,
and stated their intention to leave within six months. So the USA are preparing to deploy ground-based medium-range nuclear missiles in Europe, (between 500 and 5,500 km), similar to the Euromissiles of the 1980’s, which had been eliminated by the INF Treaty. Moscow warned that if the USA
deployed nuclear missiles in Europe, then Russia would also deploy
– on its own territory – nuclear missiles aimed at European bases and US command centres. In this scenario we must not overlook
the geographical factor. While a US medium-range nuclear missile deployed in Europe can hit Moscow, a similar nuclear missile based in Russia can hit the European capital cities, but not Washington. Reversing the scenario, it is as if Russia were to deploy medium-range nuclear missiles in Mexico which could hit Washington. At the United Nations, the European Union voted against the Russian proposition to maintain the INF Treaty, thus giving a green light to the installation of new US missiles
in Europe. A vast arc of tension and growing conflict now extends from Eastern Asia to Central Asia, from the Middle East to Europe, and from Africa to Latin America. The ”hot spots” along this intercontinental arc are the Korean Peninsula, the South China Sea, Afghanistan, Syria, Iraq, Iran, Ukraine, Libya, Venezuela and others – all of which have different characteristics. However,
they are all linked by a single factor: the strategy by which the USA are attempting to maintain their position as the dominant superpower. US supremacy is now endangered by the emergence
of new state and social subjects. What is being contested by Russia, China and other countries is the hegemony of the dollar. Washington is watching with concern the economic, political, and military partnership between Russia and China. If the Chinese project for the new Silk Road, in which Russia also participates,
were to be implemented according to the original idea, it would remodel the geopolitical architecture of the entire region of Eurasia. The European powers and NATO, although they have certain conflicts of interest with the USA, are following US leadership in order to defend the economic order which is dominated by the West. Since they do not have the economic force to do so, the United States and their allies are increasingly playing the war card. The United States – which, since 1945 have,
by their wars and their coups d’état, caused between 20 and 30 million deaths (plus the hundreds of thousands caused by the indirect effects of these actions) – are preparing
to do anything necessary to conserve their empire. The principles of our Constitution, and our real national interests make it indispensable to expel from our national territory not only nuclear weapons but also
the US and NATO bases. We must break this Great Taboo which presently dominates the political and institutional world, by clearly indicating
the goal we wish to attain: Italy’s exit from NATO. The obstacles which stand in the way of reaching this objective are gigantic. The dominant Power is basing its strength not only on political, economical and military instruments, but also on the control of minds, which is made possible by an omnipresent media apparatus. This machinery continually flashes holograms
of dangerous enemies in order to justify policies of rearmament, military operations and wars. Thus we justify a military spending which in Italy
rises to approximately 70 millions of Euros per day, and which, according to the engagements taken with NATO, should climb to approximately 100 million Euros per day. Washington now demands that the countries sheltering US forces must pay their cost, and furthermore, an additional 50% in exchange for the protection
it provides. This concerns public money,
taken from our pockets, subtracted from productive investments
and from social spending. WHAT CAN WE DO? WE MUST SHOW THE WORLD THAT THERE IS AN ITALY WHICH REFUSES TO STAY LOCKED INTO AN ALLIANCE WHICH, UNDER FOREIGN COMMAND, IS RUINING US AND LEADING US INTO CATASTROPHE. AN ITALY WHICH REMEMBERS THE MEANING OF ITS OWN CONSTITUTION, AND NOT JUST THE WORDS. AN ITALY FOR WHICH THE WORD “SOVEREIGNTY” DOES NOT MEAN AN ISTRUMENT FOR SHORT-TERM POLITICAL USE. AN ITALY CAPABLE OF FINDING THE WAY OUT OF THE ANTI-HISTORICAL VISION OF A WEST WHICH IS CLINGING TO THE DEFENCE OF ITS SUPREMACY. AN ITALY CAPABLE OF PLAYING A PEACEFUL ROLE IN THE CONSTRUCTION OF A MULTIPOLAR WORLD. A WORLD IN WHICH THE HOPES OF THE PEOPLE FOR FREEDOM AND SOCIAL JUSTICE MAY BE REALISED ON THE BASIS OF THE UNIVERSAL DECLARATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS.
