Will online retail kill shopping malls?

NO, Shopping Centers will always have their place, has they are the place of meetings, with old and new relations. No on line shopping will ever replace that. Gerry

NO BUT HEY THERE ARE OTHER STORES NOT IN MALLS .
GUESS NEGATIVE …… MEDIA FORGETS THAT.
AND PEOPLE ARE TIRED OF ALL THE BULL …. VIOLENCE…. OVER CROWED.

The malls in my area have been crazy-busy lately. On line shopping does affect traditional retail outlets. However "traditional" retail outlets are changing to offer more of an experience that cannot be had by pointing and clicking. There are more "physical experiences" such as massage, manicure/pedicure and hair salons and barber shops. There are more food and cooking related type stores. Some people will always want to touch and see first-hand certain merchandise such as clothing, shoes and jewelry. Malls also remain a social gathering place drawing people if for no other reason to experience human contact and see what other people are doing and wearing, etc. I think malls are becoming more of a social and "all senses" experience. The best ones do this very well but the malls that are failing are ignoring this trend. Malls that simply serve as warehouses with crappy window displays are not going to survive as that is basically the model for serving the internet. Malls should be a community gathering place selling products and services that reflect the wants, needs and values of the community they are in. Warehouse, outlet and cookie-cutter malls will continue to struggle but highly customized and "all-senses" oriented malls will continue to thrive. I also think that regardless of online shopping, people want to get out. The internet has made it easy for people to stay home and never leave the house. This is not healthy and people need to get out. Malls are great places to go just to get out of the house for a while. Don't think this will ever change.

From the south, I would say, perhaps if people were more courteous that work retail it would encourage more foot traffic! Let's reconnect, I love shopping with others and chatting with people I don't know, but I know people working make a difference in that atmosphere.

And my five-year-old at 1943 where there was a bus. The mothers walk for shopping and then a home as my grandmother was living for me. I wonder how it looks in the 2019 it was so long long long long long ago

Shopping malls and chains are killing themselves.
I remember when our Circuit City began shutting down because Best Buys announced that they were coming to town.
I don't shop on line and I'll bet the vast majority doesn't shop on line.
I still have my records…which are coming back, but to many records never left.
So Corporations are projecting failure based on the Hockey Stick.

No……and …..no…I think online prices are higher this year….I've only bought one thing …plus I like the hustle and bustle of shopping it's part of the Wonder of Christmas! THE REAL WONDER OF CHRISTMAS IS THE BABY BORN IN A MANGER AMONG THE ANIMALS IN THE STABLE WITH ALL THE SHEPERDS STANDING AROUND LOOKING IN WONDER AT
JESUS "IMMANUEL" "GOD WITH US" "YOU SHALL CALL HIS NAME JESUS FOR HE SHALL SAVE HIS PEOPLE FROM THEIR SINS!!!"-💌 GET BACK OUT THERE

People are annoying AF. it’s not that mall, or the shopping in person that I hate. It’s the disgusting, classless, rude, nasty people that make me want to stay home.

Online sales killing the shopping mall is doesn't matter. In India it's destroying complete lower class business . Have to modify with though fullness

They're twice as many fake websites ripping people off amazing big tech can't stop them but have algorithms for speech

IDK a lot of young people go to the malls more to socialize than shop. Besides the fact that women don't like to buy clothes they can try on especially when there's a hassle on returning it online.

Noone is going to stores until store prices drop…. you can get anything cheaper online… 90% of all sales dont happen in stores that's a lie

Almost all the shopping mall within 5 mile in my neighborhood are closed. Even some grocery stores are closing now due to Fresh direct and Walmart food services.

Both of the biggest malls in my city are basically ghost towns. Because of Amazon, Costco, and Walmarts online retail war.

Yep they need a big upgrade and product selection to keep pace not to mention price like toys are us should have half gone in in a smaller selection with online direct sale on line with half a day care center and airsoft game play area and sales with on line 😕 and price??

I stopped going to malls because of the huge crowds, I get so overwhelmed. Turn all the empty malls into giant greenhouses or build them into parks.

YES! MOST SALES EMPLOYEES ARE PROMOTING BUYING DRESSES ON LINE, IF THEY DONT HAVE IT IN STORE!
I WENT TO THE MARSIANO AND THEY DID NOT HAVE MY SIZE, THE SALES LADY SET UP AN ACCOUNT TO GET THE DRESS SENT DIRECTLY TO ME!
AT THE TIME I FIND THIS TRANSACTION THE REASON FOR KILLING THE SHOPPING MALLS AND CREATING THE JOBS IN SOME MAILING/COUROUR FACTORIES!
THIS IS SICKENING!
IT STOPS THE STORES FROM REQUIRING MORE EMPLOYEES TO DEAL WITH US DIRECTLY!
THEY MUST, OR SHOULD BRING THE DRESSES THEMSELVES FOR US TO TRY AND BUY, SO THAT THEIR BUSINESSES ARENOT KILLED OUT!
I BELIEVE ALSO THAT THIS PROCESS IS CAUSING THEM TO REQUIRE SMALLER RENTAL SPACES AND SALES PERSONNELS! BUT ALL THIS TAKES AWAY THE HAPPINES OF TRYING THE DRESSES AND HAPPILY BUYING THEM IN STORES!

Trump is removing the "Speculation" from wall street!!! ONLY Profitable Companies are WINNERS!! INVESTMENT is coming to Wall Street!!
